CHURCH NEWS

BIBLE STUDY

Our study is currently in the book of Acts and The Acts of the Apostles. There will be no study February 8. We will resume Thursday, February 15, 7:00 PM at the church. All are encouraged to come as we study the beginning of the early Christian Church.

BAPTISM

It is always a special occasion when we have a baptism. By Baptism we acknowledge Christ as Lord and Saviour, become His people, and are received as members into His church. Baptism is a symbol of our union with Christ, the forgiveness of our sins, and our receiving of the Holy Spirit. We welcome Terry Mucci into our fellowship. He was baptized January 27 by Elder Roger Curtis.

RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE

THANK YOU to all who helped out with our last drive, January 16. 25 units were collected. Our next scheduled blood drive will be Tuesday, March 13, 1:30-6:30 PM. Many blood types are currently in very low supply, so donors are needed. We are all in need of callers to contact previous donors in the area around the church. Any help would really be appreciated! If you can call a list, please contact Sharon.

VESPERS

Our next vespers is planned for Sabbath, February 17, 4:30 PM. This will be a video in our continuing Reformation Series, on Martin Luther. Luther's protest changed the course of Western History. Luther was a German monk, priest, and church reformer whose ideas led into the Protestant Reformation. This video traces his life from a guilt-burdened monk through the events that led to a break with the Roman Catholic Church.

The video will be followed by a light supper. Please bring finger foods or sandwiches.

DISTRICT EXPANSION

As of the first of the year, the Bath Church Plant is now part of our district. Dustin Hall, who has been lay pastor in Bath has accepted a call to the Ithaca/Cortland/Horseheads District.

VEGETARIAN SPAGHETTI DINNER

Monday, February 19, 5:00-6:30 PM there will be a spaghetti dinner in the Church Fellowship Hall. The menu includes spaghetti with vegetarian meatballs, salad, bread, and desert.

Cost will be: Adults - $4.50, Children under 12 - $3.00. Pay at the door. This is an fund raiser for Personal Ministries

IN SYMPATHY

We extend our condolences to the families and friends of: Winnie Roland; Linda Clinton ( Martha Pack's sister,) Marjorie Beals, (Susie Keltz' sister), and Bob Barry (neighbor at VanGalder's cottage,) who all recently passed away.

For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words. I Thessalonians 4:16-18.

COMMUNITY SERVICES

Each year our community services department prepares Thanksgiving baskets for a few families. Harvest Sabbath was held November 18, with donations of canned goods being added to a display at the front of the church. Thank you for your contributions of food and financial gifts toward the boxes which were prepared and given out.

Food boxes were prepared for ten families; and fruit/cookie plates for 13 families. During October one food/gift card was given to a needy family. During December, two families received sewing machines, and clothing, personal items and gifts. There were 3 pickups in 2006 for the Northern Tier Children's Home. (At this time, we are no longer collecting items for the orphanage.) Donations were received from our church members as well as from Christian Faith Fellowship.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

It will also be used to support the North American division litigation fund, and to aid in religious liberty promotion and education in the Atlantic Union.
