DIABETES SEMINAR

Michelle Vesneske, RN, BS has been the presenter for many of the topics at our Diabetes Seminar, such as: What is Diabetes? Managing Diabetes, Diet & Physical Activity, and Healthy Relationships. Nan Mansfield, a Registered Dietician from Arnot-Ogden Medical Center discussed many areas of diet including the new food pyramid, nutritional requirements, menu planning, and serving sizes. She also answered questions from the group. Our final meeting featured a meal, with brown rice, steamed vegetables, salad, and fresh fruit.

BLOOD DRIVE

Did you know: Every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood. One donation can help save the lives of up to three people. Shortages of all blood types usually occur during the summer. The Personal Ministries Department is planning on sponsoring Red Cross Blood Drives in June and August in the church fellowship hall. Plan on donating and inviting your friends. Contact Sharon, if you would like to donate or help out.

WORSHIP SERVICE SPEAKERS

Our guest speaker May 28, was Elder Angel Rodriguez, New York Conference Executive/Ministerial Secretary.

Sabbath, June 4 our speaker will be Elder Lawrence Maxwell. Elder Maxwell comes to us from Union Springs. He is past editor of Junior Guide, Signs, and Adventist Affirm magazines.

THANK YOU

. . . to everyone who donated supplies, helped out and/or attended our spaghetti dinner in April. We fed over 50 people and brought in about $260 for Personal Ministries. We had several guests from the community and from as far away as Owego.

SPRING MUSIC PROGRAM

A lot of work by teachers and students alike was demonstrated in the spring music program presented at Horseheads Christian School. Readings and music focused on patriotism and the freedom of worship that we are blessed with in this country. Makayla Curtis, a second grader at HCS participated in the choral singing.

GUEST PATHFINDERS

We have appreciated some of our Pathfinder friends from Hillcrest Church in Wellsboro, PA joining us for vespers. They are always willing to help out with scripture readings and prayer. Three of them, Brian and BJ Schweizer and Eric Brewer, also spent two Sunday afternoons here learning to tie knots. Tying knots is a requirement of some of the Pathfinder classes. They were able to complete the Knot Honor, tying 25 knots and making a knot board, learning three different types of splices, as well as discussing different types of ropes and how to care for it. It was a really enjoyable to work with such enthusiastic young people.

Brian Schweizer will be graduating from eighth grade at the Hillcrest SDA Church on Thursday, June 2, 7:00 PM. Graduation speaker will be Barbara Boyce. All are welcome to attend.
