IN TOUCH WITH GOD    by Edward Heppenstall

Witnesses Unto Me JUNE 8

"WITNESSES UNTO ME"

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you; and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Acts 1:8.

If Christ were walking down here with us today, we would be taking the long march with Him to see the Syrophenician woman, to Jericho to see Zaccheus, and to a host of other bright prospects for the kingdom of God. The time has not yet come to escape from our responsibilities to the world.

Granted that we have little relish for what the world offers; but the people in it are something else again. We could witness with an infilling of apostolic fervor that feared no one and loved all men. We are not ready to flee to the mountains. There are too many people yet to be won to Christ. As Christians, time should not hang heavily on our hands anymore. We cannot sit down and stay where we are. There is too much at stake in the world. The devil has come down with great wrath and destructive power.

It is not hard to believe that the church is not going to save the world. But we cannot leave people behind to perish. We might be tempted to believe at times that the church has proved its impotence by not being able to make a great impression on the world. However, against all the evil forces in the world there is the power and the presence of God, of Christ, and of the Holy Spirit. The triumph of the everlasting gospel and the third angel's message in the lives of multitudes is still to be realized.

There is a very realistic way for our lives to go. Wherein and wherever sin has deceived and led us, none of it is complimentary. We tremble to think of how our sins outgrow themselves and run far away into other lives where we can never follow them. Thank God, Christ will wipe out that record for eternity. Throughout the universe, when sin is ended we shall not be confronted with gossips who never let rest our mistakes and our sins. In Christ we are assured that God will not later dredge the depths of the sea for our sins and bring them up against us. We know for sure that in the ages to come they will not arise and condemn us. We will be able to look around the universe and see no trace of the evil we have done. Thank God we will stand clear, amazingly clear, for all eternity.
